WHIRI

WHIRI’S core design is built on strong ethnographic principles. This young brand enthuses a fresh perspective of traditional ideas within a contemporary context. “We are dedicated to creating an edgy high street feel integrated with strong elements of cultural design, form and texture, provoking a connection between the wearer and garment”. Their signature is the integration of texture, art and identity with all the cool of high street.

The invitation to present in two shows at this years Air New Zealand fashion week will see the brands debut collection. This collection symbolises the brands core beliefs. The whiri or weave features heavily throughout the collection along with a strong focus on embellishments of hand carved accessories creating volume and texture. 

WHIRI is a whanau collaboration of designer Keri Wanoa and contemporary artist Hemi Sundgren (& at times their three young tamariki). The husband and wife team bring together over 10 years experience in art and design and in addition to their high street label the brand also produces high quality ethnographic jewellery and sculpture that has become a key element to their design portfolio.
